The Auckland Bioengineering Institute at the University of Auckland
Research into the application of mathematical and engineering sciences to biology and human physiology. Researchers, led by Prof. Peter Hunter, are involved in a European Framework 6 funding program called @neurIST and is aimed at improving clinical decision making for the treatment of cerebral aneurisms. The BioEngineering Institute also continues to be a major partner in the International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS) Physiome Project, which aims to provide a framework for modelling the human body using computational methods.
Australia and New Zealand Melanoma Trials Group (ANZMTG)
The Australia and New Zealand Melanoma Trials Group (ANZMTG) coordinates and conducts research into melanoma treatment and care, working with researchers, health professionals and consumers. ANZMTG was established to centrally promote melanoma trials for investigators and consumers. ANZMTG aims to bring together researchers, clinicians, health care professionals and consumers with an interest in melanoma clinical trials to foster collaboration and the exchange of ideas, develop and support large scale, multi-centre melanoma studies of clinical relevance and importance that would be difficult for any single centre to complete, and provide a single point of contact for sponsors and investigators wishing to undertake melanoma trials in Australia and New Zealand.

Mesothelioma cancer most commonly develops in the lungs of people exposed to asbestos. More accurate diagnostic tools, better chemotherapy drug combinations and improved surgical techniques all play a role in the progress being made against this disease.
